Oklahoma Fried Onion Burger - James
Directions
Preheat your griddle to medium-high heat and lightly coat the surface with oil.
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently form into loose balls.
Place the beef balls on the hot griddle and immediately top each one with a generous mound of thinly sliced onions.
Using a burger press or sturdy spatula, firmly smash the onions into the beef, creating thin patties. The onions should be pressed directly into the meat.
Season each patty generously with salt.
Cook until the underside develops a deep brown crust and the onions begin to soften.
While the patties cook, toast the buns until lightly golden and set aside.
Carefully flip the patties, keeping as many onions attached as possible. Continue cooking until the onions are caramelized and the burgers are cooked through.
Top each patty with a slice of cheese and cover with a melting dome or lid until the cheese is melted.
Stack two patties together to create a double burger.
Place each double stack on a toasted bun and top with the remaining bun. Serve immediately while hot and crispy.
